22: Don't Panic – About that FaceTime Bug

A serious bug in Apple's FaceTime Group call feature was disclosed recently. It can be exploited to allow access to your microphone and even your front-facing camera, but you don't need to panic.

Apple shutdown the Group FaceTime servers until a bug fix is released in a few days, thus protecting everyone from a potential exploit. Even so, it's worth discussing this bug and the reaction to it.

5: Photo Inception

I wasn't going to post today, it being the weekend, but earlier today I was trolling the Facebook and I saw a post to a video interview on YouTube of my friend (and podcast theme provider), E.Joseph. It caught my eye because the embed was using one of my photos of Ed from earlier in 2018!

Once I watched the video, I realized that many of my photos were used as the backdrop to a really interesting and well-produced interview show with interspersed segments of Ed performing his original songs. It all ends with an acoustic version of this show's podcast theme, Rabbit Hole, performed in front of several photos of mine.

Watching the show was a real thrill for me. I loved seeing my friend get the spotlight and I, of course, enjoyed seeing my photos used in an interesting new way. I'm feeling better, so I grab my first slice of 2019 at my favorite local pizza place. I also discuss the importance of local businesses collaborating with each other and with community organizations and why I think this is an important part of any small business' strategy for flourishing in today's Amazon/big box dominated world. I talk about some of the town events I've witnessed or participated in as examples as well as the importance of cross-promotion on social media.

Ultimately, local businesses are run by our neighbors and people who have invested in the community. Great things can come about when we all work together.

On this sick day from the day job, I took a walk and contemplated the future. Our time is finite and the future rushes towards us whether we want it to or not. The only inevitably in life is change and much of that is outside our control, so I took some time to think about things that I can influence. I briefly mention how my thinking is influenced by being a cancer survivor.
